Hulkenberg’s success in the GP2 Series caught the attention of the Williams Formula One team, who signed him as their test and reserve driver for the 2009 season.

He finally made his Formula One debut in 2010, driving for the Williams team.

Pole Position

He had an impressive start in his first season when he achieved his first pole position in his tenth race at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Unfortunately, he did not finish the race as he crashed with the Force India driver Vitantonio Liuzzi.

He finished his first season with 22 points in the drivers’ championship. His rookie year earned him a fourteenth place in the championship standings.

Force India F1 Team

For the 2011 season, Hulkenberg moved to the Force India team, where he competed for two seasons.


He scored his first podium finish in the 2012 season at the Belgian Grand Prix, finishing in third place.

He finished the 2012 season with 63 points, earning him an eleventh place in the drivers’ championship standings, with 63 points.

Hülkenberg was replaced by Mercedes reserve driver and former Force India driver Esteban Ocon for the 2020 season.

In 2020 he joined the racing point team as the reserve driver, replacing Sergio Pérez after Pérez tested positive for SARS-2 coronavirus.

The same thing happened again at the Silverstone circuit.

From 2021 to 2022, he remained as the reserve and development driver for Racing Point (which had now changed its name to Aston Martin.
