Valtteri Bottas – Mercedes

The Mercedes F1 team is a powerhouse in motorsports, known for its iconic silver livery and a dominant performance on the track. Since the team’s inception in the 1950s, Mercedes has had a storied history in Formula One racing, with numerous successes and setbacks.

Since the beginning of the hybrid era, Mercedes AMG Petronas has dominated the sport and has won every constructor’s title from 2014 to 2021. They have battled to adjust to the new ground effect cars, and as a result, the 2022 season was a bust.

The team is desperately trying to claw their way back into the front of the grid. This is proving hard, with the Red Bull team dominating the results with a superior car and two excellent drivers.

History Of The Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team

Mercedes AMG Petronas in the 1920s

The Mercedes F1 team traces its roots back to the early days of motorsports in the 20th century. In the 1920s and 1930s, Mercedes-Benz was a dominant force in the sport, winning numerous races and championships. However, after World War II, Mercedes-Benz withdrew from racing, and it was not until the 1950s that the company returned to the sport.

In 1954, Mercedes-Benz entered the newly-formed Formula One World Championship, and the team’s iconic silver livery was born. The team immediately succeeded when it won its first race at the French Grand Prix and secured the championship with driver Juan Manuel Fangio.

Mercedes remained a dominant force in Formula One in the following years, winning two more championships with Fangio in 1955 and 1956.

In 1955, tragedy struck at the 24 Hours of Le Mans when a Mercedes-Benz race car crashed into the crowd, killing 84 spectators and injuring more than 100 others. In the wake of the disaster, Mercedes withdrew from racing once again.

It was not until 1994 that Mercedes-Benz returned to Formula One as an engine supplier to the Sauber team.

In 1995, the company again became a full works team, with a car designed by British racing car designer Adrian Newey (of current Red Bull fame). The team was initially successful, winning two races in its first season, but struggled in the following years.

The Current Era Started With The Brawn F1 Team

Brawn F1 Team

The Brawn F1 team was a short-lived but highly successful Formula One team that competed in the 2009 season. Brawn F1 immediately impacted the sport despite being a new team, winning both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships in its debut season.

The F1 team was formed in 2009 by former Honda F1 team principal Ross Brawn. Honda had announced its withdrawal from Formula One at the end of the 2008 season, leaving the team without a parent company or major sponsor.

Brawn and his team of engineers and designers were determined to continue racing, and they set about developing a new car for the 2009 season.

The Brawn BGP 001 proved one of the most successful cars in Formula One history, winning eight of the season’s 17 races.

They won the drivers’ and constructors’ championships.

The team’s drivers, Jenson Button, and Rubens Barrichello, dominated the season, with Button winning six races and Barrichello winning two.

The Brawn Car Innovated In Several Areas

The team’s success was due in no small part to the innovative design of the BGP 001 and the team’s technical expertise. The car’s unique diffuser gave it a significant advantage over its rivals, and the team’s engineers were able to make the most of this advantage by optimizing the car’s setup and performance.

The Brawn BGP 001 was designed to take advantage of a loophole in the sport’s regulations that allowed for a new type of rear diffuser.

The diffuser, which helped generate downforce and improve the car’s performance, was controversial and had been the subject of much debate in F1 circles. Brawn and his team believed it would give them an advantage over their rivals, and they were proven right.

Brawn Had Two Great Drivers

It also had two of the best drivers. Button, in particular, had a breakout season, winning his first drivers’ championship and establishing himself as one of the sport’s top talents.

Barrichello, meanwhile, was a veteran of the sport and brought his hard-learned experience and knowledge to the team.

What Happened To The Brawn Team?

The Brawn F1 team’s achievements continue to be celebrated. The team’s success in its debut season was one of the most remarkable stories in Formula One history, and it demonstrated the importance of innovation, technical expertise, and driver talent in the sport.

In 2010, Mercedes-Benz bought a controlling stake in the Brawn team and renamed it Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team based in Brackley, England.

The team’s engine supplier, Mercedes-Benz High-Performance Engines, was based in Brixworth, England.

The Mercedes AMG Petronas Team Achievements

The Mercedes F1 team is, perhaps, the most successful team in the sport. They have dominated the results with numerous championship titles, and race wins to its name. The team has been particularly dominant recently, winning seven constructors’ championships from 2014 to 2021.

During this period, the team was led by British driver Lewis Hamilton, who has won six driver’s championships with Mercedes (plus one he won with Vodafone McLaren).

Hamilton is perhaps one of the greatest drivers in the F1s history, and his partnership with Mercedes has produced the results.

In addition to Hamilton, Mercedes has had several other successful drivers in recent years, including Nico Rosberg, who won the drivers’ championship in 2016 before retiring from the sport, and Valtteri Bottas, who was a consistent podium finisher and race winner for the team.

George Russel replaced Valtteri for the 2022 season, and although the team has not had a great car, George has put in some amazing drives. It is accepted that George is Lewis’s natural successor.

Mercedes F1 Is A Technology Leader

Mercedes has also been at the forefront of technological innovation in the sport, with its hybrid power units and aerodynamic advancements helping the team to maintain its dominance on the track.

The team’s engine department, Mercedes-Benz High-Performance Engines, is regarded as a very advanced and successful engine supplier in Formula One.

The Hybrid Era – Mercedes Dominance

Lewis Hamilton joined Mercedes in 2013, the start of the hybrid-powered era. Showing impeccable timing when he left, McLaren Lewis achieved 4th position in the world championship in his first year.

From 2014 (with second place in the 2017 championship season), Lewis achieved six world championships with Mercedes.

His run ended in 2021 with the infamously disastrous decision made by Michael Massi (the rogue race director), denying him an eighth world championship.
