Fernando Alonso – Early Career

His dad decided karting was a sport the whole family could enjoy.

He chose to build a kart. 

He began racing go-karts at the age of three and quickly showed his talent.

The local racing federation issued him a kart racing license.

At the age of 14, he won the Spanish karting championship and began his professional racing career in 1999, at the age of 18, in the Euro Open by Nissan series.

In 2000, Alonso moved up to Formula 3000 and he won his first race in that series in 2003 and impressed the Formula One teams with his speed and consistency.

In August 2003, he made his Formula One debut with the Minardi team at the Hungarian Grand Prix, finishing in eleventh place.

Fernando Alonso Renault (2003 – 2006)

Alonso joined Renault in 2003 as a test driver and was promoted to a race seat for the 2003 Malaysian Grand Prix. In 2004, he won his first Grand Prix in Hungary, becoming the youngest driver ever to win a Formula One race at the time. He finished the season in fourth place in the championship, with a total of 59 points.

The following year, Alonso won his first world championship. He won seven races and finished on the podium 15 times in 19 races, finishing the season with a total of 133 points, 21 more than his closest rival, Kimi Raikkonen. In 2006, Alonso successfully defended his world championship, winning seven races and finishing on the podium 11 times.

In 2007, Alonso moved to McLaren, but the season was marred by controversy.

Alonso clashed with his teammate, Lewis Hamilton, and with the team management.

Alonso returned to Renault in 2008, but the team was no longer competitive, and he finished the season in fifth place.

He finished the season as runner-up to Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel, winning five races and finishing on the podium 10 times. In 2012, Alonso had one of his best seasons, winning three races and finishing on the podium 13 times, but again lost out to Vettel in the championship.

Alonso’s time at Ferrari was marked by his incredible consistency and ability to get the most out of an underperforming car. He finished in the top five in the championship every year he was at the team, even when the car was not competitive.
