Who is Nyck de Vries? The Dutchman making his mark in Formula 1

Hendrik Johannes Nicasius Nyck de Vries is a Dutch racing driver born on February 6, 1995, in Sneek, Netherlands. Having joined the AlphaTauri F1 team in 2023, he is one of the most promising drivers of his generation.

His family has a strong connection to motorsports. De Vries is known for his consistency and strong work ethic, which contributed to his motorsport’s success. He has already achieved a great deal in his career.

Will Nyck de Vries be able to emulate and challenge fellow Dutch driver – Max Verstappen? Only time will tell, but with him finally able to enter the world of F1, he has a unique opportunity to try.

Tragically Nyck De Vries has had his F1 career cut short. After only ten races (where he did not perform well) Daniel Ricciardo has been brought in to replace Nyck.

This must have been a devastating blow for the young man, and we wish him well as he moves forward!

Nyck had a large motor racing influence when he was growing up.

He continued to race in various series, including Formula 2, where he won the championship in 2019.

Nyck De Vries – Endurance Racing.

De Vries signed with the Racing Team Nederland to compete in the LMP2 class. He successfully ran and won the 6 hours of Fuji on 6 October 2019.

This was the team’s first win in this class.

De Vries has also competed in endurance racing. He won the 24 Hours race at Le Mans in 2020 and the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2021. He currently races in the all-electric racing series for the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E team.

Nyck De Vries – Formula E

On 11 September 2019, Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team announced that Nyck would drive for them for the 2019–20  season.

He raced alongside Stoffel Vandoorne, and the team achieved a 1-2 finish in yeh constructor championship, with Vandoorne leading De Vries.

Nyck continued driving for Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team in the 2020–21 season, where he won the championship. The Dutchman ended the campaign with two wins, four podiums, and 99 points, seven ahead of vice-champion Mortara.

In his last season with Formula E, he finished in 9^th position with 106 points.

Indy Car Series

In 2021 Nyck participated in an IndyCar test with Meyer Shank Racing at Sebring International Raceway.

Nothing came of this.

After completing a young driver test with Mercedes in 2019, In 2020, he became one of the reserve drivers for the Mercedes F1 team.

Although he has been the test and reserve driver for the McLaren team since 2016, he has not had a chance to break into full-time driving until 2023.

He also replaced Lewis Hamilton for the practice session at the French Grand Prix. At the Mexico City Grand Prix, he replaced George Russel for the free practice session.

William

Lando recovered, and even though he had had a seat fitted for him, Nyck never raced for McLaren.

Scuderia AlphaTauri

Finally, in the 2023 season, Nyck De Vries became a full-time F1 driver when he was appointed to replace Pierre Gasly at Scuderia AlphaTauri. Gasly moved over to Alpine, where he was racing with Esteban Ocon.
