Luna’s mother, Lisa, originally hails from Northampton. She met her husband, Lorenzo Fluxá Domene, in 1998, while they were both working in the tourist industry in Tenerife. They decided to move to Lorenzo’s home island of Mallorca in 2001.

Today, Lisa and  Lorenzo Fluxá run the LJ’s Ratxó Eco Luxury Retreat in Puigpunyent.

Her eldest brother, 17-year-old Lorenzo, competes in F3.

Luna was born in Barcelona on March 15, 2010. She started karting at the age of six, following her father’s passion for motorsport.

In 2019, she made her international debut in the Mini class of the WSK series, where she competed against some of the best young drivers in Europe. She impressed with her speed and consistency, scoring two podiums and finishing seventh in the standings.

In 2020, she moved up to the OK class, where she faced tougher competition and more powerful karts. She adapted well to the new challenge, scoring points in several races and finishing 12th in the WSK Super Master Series.

With the support of the ‘Programa Mujer y Motor’ of the RFEdA, she has participated a number of European championships. She has had victories including  the IAME Euro Series in X30 Mini in 2021.

In 2021, Luna caught the attention of Mercedes, who invited her to join their junior program. She was offered and has accepted a ten-year contract with Mercedes

She made history by becoming the first female driver to be part of the prestigious scheme, which aims to nurture and support the future stars of Formula 1.

Luna was thrilled to join Mercedes, saying: “It’s a dream come true for me to be part of the Mercedes family. They are the best team in Formula 1, and they have a great history of developing young drivers. I’m very grateful for this opportunity and I hope to make them proud.”

As part of the junior program, Luna received guidance and mentoring from Mercedes’ F1 drivers and engineers, as well as access to their state-of-the-art facilities and simulator. She also continued to race in the OK class, where she improved her results and performance.

In 2022, Luna stepped up to the OK Junior class, where she faced older and more experienced drivers. She showed her potential by winning two races and finishing third in the WSK Euro Series. She also participated in the FIA Karting World Championship, where she finished sixth.

As soon as Luna visited Mercedes headquarters in Brackley she was mote interested in helping the mechanics getting the new racing car ready for the presentation.

It was not long before Lewis was alongside her.

This is one of her great assets. She’s not afraid of getting stuck in and within minutes she was chatting with the mechanics, not to mention the greatest F1 driver in history, Lewis Hamilton.

Luna Fluxá – Looking Ahead

In 2023, Luna will continue to race in the OK Junior class, where she hopes to fight for the title. She will also take part in some selected events in other categories, such as Formula 4 or Formula Regional.

Luna’s ultimate goal is to reach Formula 1 and become the first female driver to win a race or a championship. She knows that it is a long and hard journey, but she is determined to work hard and learn from her mentors.

She said: “I have a lot of respect and admiration for Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. They are my role models and I want to follow their example. They have shown me that nothing is impossible if you have talent, passion, and dedication.”
