Hungarian GP Results – Main race

The hope that Lewis Hamilton starting on pole would mix the results up proved to be wrong.

Max Verstappen won the Hungarian GP and in doing so set a new record for consecutive race wins for Red Bull.

Max had a much better start then Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) who was on pole and he gained first place before the first corner. Lewis lost a further two spots to Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Oscar benefitted by hugging the inside of Turn 1, while Lando Norris drove around the outside of Hamilton at Turn 2.

Norris undercut Piastri for second place at the first round of pitstops. He maintained position finishing 2nd. In doing so he managed to keep a charging Sergio Perez behind him.

Sergio had a storming drive and managed to win six places and finished in third spot.

A first-corner bumper car session was started by Zhou Guanyu who hit Daniel Ricciardo’s AlphaTauri, which pushed into Esteban Ocon. In turn Esteban hit team-mate Pierre Gasly.

Both Ocon and Gasly received suspension damage and were forced to retire.

Verstappen stayed on the same medium tires until lap 24. Perez pitted soon after and came back out onto the track between the Ferraris.

Hamilton pitted after running in 2nd position. He rejoined in fifth. Verstappen was again last to stop, going back to medium tires to ensure his extra point for fastest lap.

Perez charged through and maintained a great 3rd place, and Hamilton overtook Oscar Piastri for fourth place. Hamilton challenged Perez in the last 13 laps but was unable to complete the move.

Max won the fastest lap.
