After months of careful scrutiny by the FIA regarding expressions of interest in joining Formula 1 from 2025 at the earliest, the governing body has at last revealed that only Andretti Motorsport has qualified.
The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has announced that Andretti Formula Racing is set to advance to the next stage of the application process. This stage will include commercial discussions with Formula One management.
However, it’s worth noting that Formula One, owned by Liberty Media, will conduct its independent assessment as well.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem emphasized the thoroughness of the selection process, explaining the delay. He stated,
“Andretti Formula Racing LLC was the only entity which fulfills the selection criteria that was set in all material respects. I congratulate Michael Andretti and his team on a thorough submission. I also want to thank all prospective teams for their interest and participation.”

The Expressions of Interest process aligns with the positive reception of the FIA’s 2026 F1 Power Unit Regulations among existing OEMs, further solidifying commitments from Audi, Honda, and Ford, with interest also coming from Porsche and General Motors.

The Existing F1 Teams do Not Support Andretti
Despite facing opposition from both the teams and F1’s CEO Stefano Domenicali, the FIA initiated the process of soliciting expressions of interest. The process garnered significant initial interest from multiple parties.
However, only four teams advanced to the second phase of the application process, submitting comprehensive applications.
Sulayem expressed gratitude to all the FIA team members involved in the Expressions of Interest process for their dedicated efforts in meticulously assessing all the applications received.
